Análisis de la transmisión del euskera en la comunidad autónoma del País Vasco

Abstract : The Spanish Constitution of 1978 recognizes the legitimacy of regional languages, so in the autonomous community of Basque Country (ACBC) two official languages coexist since 1978: spanish and euskera, the language of the region. Furthermore, since a 1982 law, the euskera muste also be used in non-university education. We will analyze, using data from census data and Statistics of population and housing carried out between each census, the evolution of the knowledge of euskera in the ACBC since 1986. Given the weakness of the total fertility rate in the ACBC, we could expect a decrease of use of euskera as the population "home" decreases over time. But we will demonstrate that in fact, the practice of euskera has grown because it is an assimilation of the basque language by immigrant populations, and that language always attracts the same extent in the younger generations.
